Your main aim for creating a lean muscular body is probably to stick to a good diet and training program. However it's your consistency at following it that will maximise muscle gains and lose body fat.
Your success at gym will rely on you being able to maintain consistency in the program you follow. The best program I have come across for building lean muscle and losing body fat is Mike Geary's Truth About Six Pack Abs. However, although it's a great program, I will only achieve the results I want if I follow it with consistency. This applies to any workout program.
Here are some tips on how to improve your consistency at gym and get the most out of your training program and diet.
FIND A DIETARY PLAN THAT WORKS FOR YOU
If you're following a dietary plan that makes you feel weak or tired, then try a different one. Feelings like this will only lower your motivation and steer you towards failure. The best dietary plan is one that provides you with enough protein and the required amount of calories. Also, a variety of food in your diet is important. It keeps you interested in your diet. Try Dave Ruel's Anabolic Cooking program, which provides the dietary requirements for building muscle without eating boring, tasteless food.
IDENTIFY PROBLEMS IN YOUR PROGRAM
If you start to feel fatigue settling in after a few weeks of training, then imagine how you will feel in the next few weeks. Your program may be too advanced for a beginner, so you will need to modify or have a personal trainer look at it and make adjustments to suit your fitness level. If you let fatigue set in then it will be very difficult to stay motivated and maintain consistency.
Mike Geary's The Truth About Six Pack Abs program is great as it has workouts for beginners, intermediate and advanced, so you can vary your program to suit your fitness level and maintain consistency.
HAVE A BREAK
If you slip up once in a while with your diet and training program, don't beat yourself up about it. Don't let it throw you off track and continue your program as normal.
SET THE CORRECT GOALS
The type of goals you choose will have a major impact on your motivation, and is important in maintaining consistency.
Say a man wants to lose weight before he goes on holiday and has set a target of 10lbs weight loss. This goal is all well and good before the holiday, but after it's finished he won't have the motivation to maintain his workouts. When setting goals you should look at the bigger picture to achieve good health and fitness.
MODIFY YOUR TRAINING
When you train consistently, your fitness level will increase. This means that although your workout was once challenging, it isn't any longer. Increase the intensity of your workouts by adding more weights, to maintain a program that increases consistency and builds lean muscle.
VARY YOUR WORKOUTS
Include as much variety in your workout as possible. If your program is boring then it will be hard to maintain consistency. Change and try different exercises or perform your workouts in different orders.
