SO THIS IS HOW IT ENDED WITH JASON:

We were out for dinner. When we asked for the bill the waiter told us that it was "taken care of." Across the restaurant I saw an old family friend, Larry, and his wife both waving. They had obviously picked up our check. On our way out, Jason and I went over to Larry's table to say thank you. He and his wife were dining with another couple and, not having seen them in a while, some introductions and chit chat ensued. I wasn't paying very close attention to Jason and Larry's conversation, but I believe that Larry, very innocently and jovially, said something like this: "Now that I know who you are, you better not hurt her." Or something to that effect. Ok, so perhaps some might feel that this is not the most appropriate thing to say to someone you've just met and perhaps would be better received if coming from the girl's father or uncle or some family member. But you could just hear it. You've heard it before and you've brushed it off. I did. But Jason DID NOT.
