What does a divorced man or woman in their 50s do if they want to find a date? They head to online dating because nightclubs are for the young and casual.
Online dating companies like eHarmony.com, Match.com and Mate1.com are seeing a major surge in online daters in their 50s.
Joe Tracy, the publisher of Online Dating Magazine, says that the 50-plus segment in the online dating world is the fastest growing. Because people in their 50s aren't usually looking for casual encounters or even a major romance, heading online to find a variety of people to date is something they are turned on by.
And considering it has likely been many, many years since they dated, it's easy to see why heading to online dating sites would seem like the most viable choice for those who are a little shy or feel somewhat novice to the new dating rules.
Of course, there are the occasional folks in their 50s and 60s who want nothing more than to get their groove on with no strings sex.
I think that because the kids fly the coop and most couples realize that they actually can't stand each other when the dust clears, they end up getting divorced and find themselves single and bored. So what better way to pass the time than by heading to an online dating site and seeing what else it out there for their dining and mingling pleasure?
