In dedication to September 9, 2009 (or 9/9/09) the 99 Cents Only store in Hollywood (where else, really?) decided that it would run a promotion offering to marry couples in its stores for - you guessed it - 99 cents.
The first wedding started at 8:09 a.m. in aisle 9 and continued on throughout the day. KATHY JACOBS, the owner, created the d'ecor for the wedding ceremonies and receptions using everything at her disposal in the store (yes, we're talking plastic cups and no-name soft drinks alongside a hearty serving of spam).
KATHY JACOBS even managed to make a gown out of items found in the 99 Cents Only store.
I'm guessing that the grooms were ecstatic about not having to dish out thousands for the weddin, and the women, well, the women were probably desperate to get married and were willing to do so at any, or rather no, cost.
