Although this is up for debate, there are many other reasons why I try to train in the mornings rather than the evenings. I admit that getting up early to fit a gym session in before work can be challenging, especially if you haven't had enough sleep. However I do it for the following reasons:
NO WAITING FOR GYM EQUIPMENT
I hate standing around waiting for people to finish using weights and machines that I want to use. At peak times, most gyms get packed. A workout that should only take you 45 minutes could end up taking you a lot longer, due to the fact that you are wasting valuable time by standing around waiting.
If you go early in the morning you will share more space and equipment with a few like minded people. You will also be able to have a more intense workout due to the reduced waiting times.
YOU BECOME MORE CONSISTENT
When I used to plan my training sessions after work, I would often find myself not going to the gym. This is because other things end up getting in the way, e.g. working late, getting invited out for drinks.
If you train in the morning, you complete your workout before the day has even really begun, leaving you lots of free time for the rest of the day to do other things.
GIVES YOU ENERGY
Exercising early in the morning releases endorphins and other hormones that give you an energy boost that should last all day.
YOU CLEAR YOUR HEAD
If you have a lot on your mind then training in the morning will help to clear your head and give you a healthy mindset. Exercise also helps reduce stress so doing it in the morning will help reduce the chances of you getting stressed throughout the day.
YOU INCREASE YOUR METABOLISM
When you exercise your resting metabolic rate increases meaning you will be burning more calories throughout the day whilst your resting (this is especially handy if you have a desk job).
MAKES YOU MORE ALERT
You may have noticed that after a workout you feel more alert. This is due to the increased flow of oxygen to the brain. If you train in the morning you will be better prepared for whatever challenges you face throughout the day.
INCREASES DISCIPLINE
Getting out of bed in the morning to go for a workout requires a great deal of discipline. If you discipline yourself to get up in the morning and exercise you can improve your quality of life.
YOU SLEEP BETTER
When you workout regularly you will experience better sleeping patterns and sleep quality. Your body will tell you when its time for bed. You will also be more motivated to hit the sack if you know that you have to get up in the morning for training.
Sleeping is very important to give your body the time and rest it needs to recuperate and build muscle.
CONTROLS YOUR APPETITE
Training in the morning will help you control your appetite throughout the day. Your meal times will become like clockwork and you will be less likely to binge on junk food.
IMPROVES YOUR DIET
If you train in the morning you will eat better throughout the day. You will need to feed your body with proper nutrients that your body needs and you will find yourself craving for healthier foods. You will also find yourself becoming more reluctant to eat junk food due to the hard work you put in during your morning workout.
