SCIENTIFICMATCH, launched in 2008, makes it its mission to match people based on genetic testing. The site will take a cheek swab from you, process your DNA, do a background criminal and bankruptcy check, verify your age and marital status, and then find the perfect partner for you, who has also undergone the virtual anal cavity search.
COST: $1,995.95 FOR A LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP
CHEMISTRY, launched in 2006 by major online dating site Match.com, used biological anthropologist Helen Fisher to develop a questionnaire that is designed to find a compatible partner based on your temperament (i.e. how decisive, empathetic and adventurous you might be).
COST: $50 A MONTH
EHARMONY, the granddaddy of all scientific match websites, was founded by a marriage counselor in 2000, and expects members to devote about a year's time to filling out a questionnaire that will make you cry. Perhaps I'm exaggerating a little bit. The questionnaire is designed to help match people based on their morals, values, background, and social style.
COST: $45.95 A MONTH
Online dating is a $976 million industry (that's annual) in the US; it's not easy to be the new guy in town and be successful in such a mass market, so the aforementioned sites believe that anyone who signs up is interested in long-term relationships that will eventually lead to marriage.
I mean, I don't know too many guys who'd pay two grand for a one-night stand. But then, I see way too many jackasses spending way too much cash at bars in the hopes of getting a piece of tail, so I don't know.
