Social psychologists MELISSA BURKLEY, Ph.D. and JESSICA PARKER, M.A. both from the University, have published their findings in the" of Experimental Social Psychology.
Men and women were "computer-matched" with their ideal mate and half of the participants were told that the person they were matched with was single. The other half was told that they were attached. The single women, it seems, were much more interested in going after the attached men.
If you want to talk numbers:
59% of single chicks were interested in a guy if he was single.
90% of women were interested when they heard that the man was in a committed relationship.
Men did not show the same results and neither did women who were already in relationships. I'm guessing those women could imagine what it feels like to be on the receiving end of the cheat.
The researchers think that the results might be because these single women think that the already attached man is willing to commit. But I beg to differ.
I knew a few of these "single women" who dating attached men exclusively. And I know why. They got the glitz and the glam - the fine dining, the kinky sex, the lavish hotels - all without having to smell the guy's crap or clean up after him.
They call it "mate poaching" but let's call it what it really is: the thrill of the chase. Women dating married men predates prostitution; okay, maybe not, but it will always be a factor. This study only proves what we already know: Most women who date married men do so on purpose.
