Reasons Why I Quit Smoking Cigarettes

Reasons Why I Quit Smoking Cigarettes Image
I used to smoke on average 10 cigarettes a day. If I went out on the weekends and I was drinking this number could rise between 20-30 cigarettes in one evening! I decided to quit smoking a few months ago. If I am honest, it was a tough decision at the time because I actually quite liked doing it.

I decided to write this post to try and inspire other smokers to quit. Below are my 5 reasons why I decided to quit smoking.

MY HEALTH

Everyone associates smoking with cancerous diseases. But this wasn't my main reason for giving up. I had been a full time smoker for roughly 5 years and I could tell that my health was deteriorating slowly.

I developed a smoker's cough that I would constantly have throughout the day. In the morning first thing when I wake up, on the train, at work, on the train home, at the dinner table and all through the night when trying to sleep, I would be coughing my lungs up. Not only was I finding this annoying but I could imagine that this was pissing people off around me, especially my girlfriend who would be kept awake all night by my constant coughing. My own cough would even wake me up in the night! I never seemed to have a good sleep and would feel shattered all day.

I also noticed my fitness was very poor. Smoking affected my gym sessions especially when performing cardio exercises. I was never reaching my full potential as I would get tired easily. This was the same with sex. I would want to fuck like a machine but I didn't have the stamina or lung capacity to keep it going so I would have to take breaks.

SMELLING LIKE AN ASH TRAY

I could tell that after a cigarette I smelt like an ash tray. However, I didn't realise how bad people smell after a cigarette until I quit. A very strong smell of smoke on someone isn't very attractive. Even spraying a fragrance after having one to try and mask the smell doesn't fully work.

It also makes your breath stink and if you haven't got any mints to hand, then you are in trouble if you start talking to someone. If I had nothing to freshen up my breath, it would be stale and smelly. Sometimes I realised and I would avoid talking to people until I had sorted it. Other times I didn't realise until after I had spoken to someone, which was pretty embarrassing.

THE COST OF KEEPING UP A DIRTY HABIT

Cigarettes where I live in the UK are very expensive and the price per pack keeps rising each year. Before quitting I decided to work out how much I have roughly spent over the past five years. Just say I smoked 10 cigarettes per day for five years at an average cost of lb3.50 per pack:

lb3.50 per pack x 365 days a year x 5 years = lb6,387.50

SHOCKING!

I think you would agree that lb 6,387.50 is a lot of money and could be better spent on something else.

NO TIME TO WASTE

I decided to carry out the same sort of exercise as above with the cost of cigarettes, but instead work out how much time I have wasted standing outside smoking. Just say it takes me 5 minutes to smoke a cigarette. That's 50 minutes a day which is 18,250 minutes a year. There is 1,440 minutes in a day so that equates to 13 whole days approx a year that I spend filling my lungs with smoke. That's almost a two week holiday somewhere! It is also said that smoking takes between 5-15 minutes off you life so if you take this into account then the loss of time is even greater.

MY APPEARANCE

I started to realise that I was beginning to lose my hair. I researched on the internet and one possible reason for my premature hair loss was due to smoking. This put smoking into perspective and I knew deep down that it was defiantly time for me to quit.

I also started to look and analyse other people that smoke. I noticed that most smokers look lazy, probably because they don't exercise. They also look a lot older being bald, with wrinkles and facial discolorations. I don't want to look like this in the future so I quit.

Quitting cigarettes was tough and took a lot of wheel power. I recommend trying the Quit Smoking Today System Package. I used this system to help me quit smoking.
