Online Dating Goes Mobile

Online Dating Goes Mobile Cover
In the mid-2000s, online dating stopped being taboo and became commonplace among singles looking for love in a busy, busy world.

So what's in store for 2010? There's a good chance it's going to be mobile matchmaking via iPhone apps and the like. The apps are designed to locate other singles based on current location.

A mobile dating service already exists; it's called SKOUT, and the company recently polled users to get a better understanding of how the technology is currently being used.

The survey results are based on about 500 men and 500 women's responses, all between 20 and 30 years old. And although all of those surveyed were Skout users, the questions pertained to any online dating mobile app.

- 51% have met-up with a single they "met" on their iPhone
- 69% feel comfortable meeting up with someone they meet on their iPhone
- 40% use cell phone dating services while in bars, clubs, and restaurants
- 20% exclusively use cell phone dating services outside the home
- 35% use cell phone dating services at work
- 20% already have a significant other, and half claim to have their partner's consent. Uh, yeah right.
